Goodman Group Begins US Data Centre Expansion

Goodman Group has launched its first U.S. data centre, kicking off a $10 billion global expansion to double its data centre holdings amid soaring demand for aloud computing, streaming, and Al-driven storage.

The company secured $4 billion in equity funding, its first major raising in 12 years, to support the development of 500 megawatts of new data centres across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Australia by June 2026. The first project, LAX01, a 50M W, three-level facility near downtown Los Angeles, is set for mid-2025 completion. The site is a powered shell asset with the potential to be converted to turnkey by mid-2026.

With access to a global bank of power-ready sites, Goodman is well-positioned against competitors like Equinix and Digital Realty. Its total portfolio under management has increased 1% to $64.4 billion, with $71 billion in externally managed funds. The proportion of its $13 billion development pipeline dedicated to data centres has grown from 40% to 96% in six months, reflecting their strategic shift towards data centres. Rather than burdening its balance sheet with debt, Goodman opted for $4bn equity raising to fund expansion.

JPMorgan equity analyst Richard Jones predicts substantial future profits, as Goodman continues increasing its turnkey data centre projects. This marks a step-change for Goodman, evolving from a logistics leader to a key player in global data infrastructure, capitalising an escalating digital storage demand.
