Stockland’s $1.2BN Fund to Boost shopping centre expansion

Stockland, a diversified property developer is expanding its neighbourhood shopping centre portfolio within its residential communities through the launch of its $1.2 billion retail property fund. Stockland is seeking one or more capital partners to acquire up to a 70.1% stake, enabling investors to have immediate scale in the tightly held metropolitan neighbourhood shopping centre retail sub sector.

This comes at a time where Stockland is pursuing global funds and capital sources to share the capital load, and to co-invest in real estate projects, from housing to logistics assets. Shopping centres are the latest addition on this list with a proposed fund that is seeded at $250 million, involving 3 major shopping centres that range across New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, all of which look to be completed between November and May next year. However the latest briefing documents from stocklands indicate that bigger things are to come, with a much bigger pipeline of the fund which could include a $320 million shopping centre that is currently under planning and $600 million in potential opportunities.
